What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise that is anchored in technique and teaches one true body control.  When practiced consistently and correctly, pilates reshapes the body to its optimal anatomical alignment and carves a leaner waistline and aesthetic.  It has long been a method employed by dancers and athletes to correct and even prevent muscular imbalances and to maintain proper skeletal alignment.  Each session involves all principles of Pilates, using a customized combination of both Classical and contemporary techniques based on the needs of the client.

At Align Body’s fully equipped studio, we teach clients of all levels, from beginners to the most advanced.  Chrissy’s sessions are informed by her Kinesiology degree and Muscle Activation Technique Certification, as well as her training in all Pilates apparatus, Gyrotonic, and twenty years of experience in dance. These skills distinguish Chrissy from other instructors and have led her to develop the Pilates Department at Rice University.  It is these qualifications, combined with Chrissy’s expert focus on Body Alignment, muscle firing patterns, technique, and quality of movement that make Pilates with Align Body unique.
